20 FEBRUARY 2011 Well, Summer Swelters it certainly was! We scored what felt like the hottest day of the year for the dressage competition. Thanks to our valiant judges, pencillers and scorers who withstood the heat all day without complaint (well not too much...). Thanks also to the Trewins and Gardiners for the canteen, which was very busy with a huge run on icy poles! Once again we had a terrific turnout, with more than expected entries, making it a very long hot day. Riders please be aware that in future, the number of tests for T'Shirt/Associate competitions will be capped at around 105 tests for the day. If your entry arrives from the following day after that number has been reached, you will be placed on a waiting list, and may get a ride dependant on scratchings. As we have been receiving about 170 tests the last few competions, you will see your entry will need to arrive fairly early to get in. NO LATE OR PHONE ENTRIES will be accepted in future at all, it is just too hard to find last minute judges. It is on the onus of the competitor to know the rules for dressage. It is up to you to know the rules, and up to our officials to try and ensure they are enforced so it is fair to everyone. The rules can be downloaded from the EA website HERE. Our officials and judges are volunteers, and please treat them with the respect they deserve. No rudeness or abuse will be tolerated. We have a reputation as a relaxed and fun club, and wish to keep it that way. Next Competition Our next Associate dressage day will be held in June. We are thinking seriously of running freestyles and/or pas de deux, but we will need to have at least 15 entries to make it worthwhile setting up the music etc. Please

to email your expression of interest to Kathy ASAP so we can decided whether to run it or not. We need to know approximate level (prelim upwards) freestyle or pas de deux. If we don't hear from anyone, we will assume no-one wants it. You will probably need this long to get it organised! It will also be a fundraiser for Dale Johnston and his quest for the London Paralympics, a perpetual trophy in his name will be awarded, the exact details are still to be decided. Photographs of the Summer Swelters Ellen Keidge braved the hot conditions and took hundreds of wonderful shots of our neddies doing their stuff. They are now online for viewing.
