T'Shirt Hack Show 2009

29 November 2009

Show Report

I am pleased to report that our Christmas Hack show for 2009 was an outstanding success again, with over 70 horses registered, which exceeded expectations.  It dawned a sunny day which wasn’t too unbearable with heat in first part of the morning but progressively got extremely hot.  Congratulations to the rider’s who lasted through the day, all smiling and happy.

We had competitors from Grafton & Copmanhurst and south of Coffs and all horses were beautifully turned out in their summer coats.  Firstly, a huge thanks to our great judges, we had Rex Green judging the Ponies, Elizabeth Green judging our Galloway’s and Bev Davis judging the Hacks.  We had many competitors, some competing for the first time and quite a few seasoned competitors.  The Horsing Around group brought many horses and competitor’s with them, giving a real boost to our competition.  The day ran fairly smoothly with just a few holdups. All the rings had huge turnouts with the best presented classes having around 15 - 20 horses in each ring.  The led classes were huge with at least 12 geldings in the Galloway led that I was in.

Champion Led Pony went to the lovely Billy with Siggy Walsh and Reserve to Gidget with Wilby Waugh with both of these ponies featuring in the ridden Champion’s and reserve’s and mum, Sue Salisbury’s lovely Galloway mare, Tessie, did very well with Reserve Novice & open Galloway so Sue’s family did extremely well in the broad sash department. Lauren Steele took home the Reserve Champion open Pony Hack with Jill.

Led Galloway went to Barbara Jones’s beautiful young mare, Handy’s Bold Image with Reserve champion going to Kathy Meharry’s lovely gelding Roy, whom she finally got out to a show.  Open Galloway went to the very well performed Handy Mr Impeccable, (Shadow) and Sarah White, with this pair also winning Champion Adult Rider for a very successful day, with Novice Champion Galloway being won by Handy’s Bold Image with Barbara Jones, who is the breeder of both of the above horses.

The Hack ring was hotly contested with the Julia Greacen’s beautiful Ashleigh Debonnaire taking out Champion Led Hack and and Champion open hack and Kim Holland winning Reserve Champion Open Hack and Reserve Champion Rider her gentle giant, Alvin.  Amie Harrison’s lovely young horse, Bingo, took out Reserve Champion Led Hack and Novice Champion Hack went to Romy with Claryce Phillips and Reserve Novice to Carolyn Rickwood and Seto.

The children’s riding classes were also well contested, with three Tiny Tots coming in, one of them being Ben Wilson, who was only 2 and a half years, and Angela Muller giving a great demonstration of rising trot which she had just mastered.  Champion Junior Rider went to Wilby Waugh and Gidget and Reserve to Cassidy Meldrum with the Senior Rider’s making it very tough to judge and Chelsea Dennis riding beautifully to take out the Champion Senior Rider and Gaby Tate riding very well to receive Reserve Champion on her very green young horse, Sayo.

Then, at the end, we had all the Christmas costumes, of which there was some great ones, it’s great to see everyone relax and have some fun at the end.  Congratulations again to all the competitors and help-ers for making this day extremely successful and for having a great time.

A huge thankyou again, to the Judge’s for giving up their Sunday, and an especially huge thanks to our Pencillers, Deb Hillier, Carol Wright and Mary Tate, Mary also helped with registra-tions in the morning, and also to Kathy Meharry for help with the programme and printing and registrations, also Steve for helping set up and getting us out there.  Also, another big thankyou to our Canteen ladies, Chris Gardiner and Audrey Trewin, who keep everyone fed and watered, especially the judges, without me having to stress about that and they also are trying to watch their own girls ride.  They volunteer their time and donate all proceeds to our club which is fantastic, please thank them whenever you can.   Without all my loyal helper’s this event would not happen, so thanks again everyone.

Narelle Hayes.

Comments from the Hack Ring

The hack ring was very popular with some classes having 20 riders. This required groups to be split and if you could have sold tickets for the shade trees you would have made a fortune. As riders I think we should thank our four legged friends for making the day possible. They were mostly well behaved in hot conditions and with no spare arms to swat the flies constantly buzzing their faces. Our judge was Bev Davis, who also stayed well behaved in the hot conditions and did a great job of working with the large numbers. Bev was professional, as always. She reminded us of the importance in judging to remember what a hack is, that is a horse you can happily pull out of the paddock and safely go for a ride, solo or with company, and who works with you as a team. With this in mind Claryce Phillips blitzed many classes with her laid back young boy, Romy. It was great to see some guys competing and hopefully we will see them return to other NCEC days.
